Picture this: you’re strolling along the shores of Lake Ohrid, the sun glistening on the water, when you spot them – colorful paragliders gracefully floating in the sky. My friends and I were instantly captivated. “We have to do that!” we exclaimed, and within minutes, we were scouring the internet, finding Paragliding Ohrid with its glowing TripAdvisor reviews. Little did we know, we were about to embark on an adventure that would redefine our vacation.
Excitement mixed with a healthy dose of nerves as we hopped into the terrain jeep for the ride up the mountain. The winding road to the take-off point was a bit daunting, but our pilots were absolute gems. They were friendly, communicative, and kept us laughing the entire way. By the time we reached the summit, my initial jitters had morphed into pure anticipation.
Then came the moment of truth – the take-off. I won’t lie, my heart was pounding. But as soon as we were airborne, a wave of calm washed over me. It was like becoming part of the landscape, a feeling of pure freedom and exhilaration. Suddenly, I understood why people called this a dream.
The view? Unbelievable. We floated above the majestic Galicica National Park, its vibrant flora and fauna spread out like a colourful tapestry. The iconic Samoil’s Fortress stood proud, a testament to centuries of history. The charming town of Ohrid and the shimmering expanse of the lake stretched out before us, a postcard-perfect panorama. And then, there was the landing – right on the lake shores of the legendary Cuba Libre beach bar!
And here’s a highlight that truly made it unforgettable: because the weather conditions were so calm and stable, the pilot offered me the chance to take the commands and steer the paraglider myself! Talk about an adrenaline boost! Feeling the glider respond to my movements, guiding us through the air – it was an incredible sense of control and freedom. It was a moment of pure exhilaration, and definitely one of the most thrilling things I’ve ever done.
Landing at Cuba Libre, still buzzing from the flight, was the perfect way to cap off the experience. We grabbed drinks at the bar, basking in the post-adventure glow, and even took out some SUP boards to paddle in the crystal-clear waters of the lake. It was the best way to cool down.
If you’re planning a trip to Ohrid, take my advice: don’t hesitate to book a paragliding tour. It’s safe, it’s worth every penny, and it’s an experience you’ll never forget. My only regret is not doing it sooner. And here’s a tip: book it early in your vacation, because it’s weather-dependent, and you might need to reschedule.
Plus, we got a 10% discount coupon for other adventure activities in Ohrid: ATV tours, diving, and wakeboarding. It was like the adventure kept on giving!
Paragliding in Ohrid wasn’t just an activity; it was a highlight of my vacation. It’s a memory I’ll cherish forever, and I can’t wait to return and do it again. If you’re looking for a thrill, a view that will take your breath away, and a story to tell, then paragliding over Lake Ohrid is a must-do. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
